About The Position

The Department of Kinesiology and Health in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a term faculty teaching position in the area of Dance. This will be at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Responsibilities include teaching at all levels of ballet, contemporary modern dance, dance composition, dance history, as well as other potential areas of specialty including, but not limited to; jazz, hip hop, musical theater, dance production, and yoga. The successful candidate will be responsible for advising a student dance company that meets regularly, invites guest instructors, and holds performances throughout the year. As the faculty advisor, responsibilities include serving as the Artistic Director of Barjche’, the main stage production at Fisher Theatre, which features both public performances and student matinees for public education. Additionally, the role involves maintaining an active artistic practice and contributing to the creation of original choreography for students. In these various roles, the candidate is responsible for mentoring student choreographers, providing feedback on their work, and assisting in bringing it to the stage. The candidate works closely with the theatre production staff to schedule technical needs for productions, arranges a guest choreographer for a residency, and coordinates the annual Scholarship Concert dance event. The successful candidate will serve as the faculty representative for the American College Dance Association (ACDA), participating in, coordinating, and accompanying student conferences. This faculty member will share in committee responsibilities within the Department of Kinesiology and Health, as well as collaborate with the other dance faculty in developing and serving the Iowa State University Dance Program. The initial appointment will span the Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters, from August 16, 2026, through May 15, 2027. Appointment renewal is possible and will be determined by performance and department need. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Requirements

  • M.F.A. in Dance or Ph.D. in Dance or a related field

Nice To Haves

  • Teaching experience in all levels of ballet and contemporary modern dance
  • At least 2 years of higher education teaching experience, with professional and dance production experience in the field
