About The Position

The Assistant Teaching Professor in Fashion Design and Merchandising at Iowa State University is a full-time, 9-month faculty position focused on teaching undergraduate courses related to apparel and soft goods product development, including technical design and global sourcing. Requirements

• Master's degree
• At least one degree in apparel design and/or product development

Nice To Haves

• Prior teaching experience at the university/college level
• Prior industry experience related to fashion or soft goods
• Ability to teach creative and technical apparel design and soft goods manufacturing
• Computer-aided apparel patternmaking
• Global sourcing for apparel and soft goods
• Ability to teach and integrate fashion-related technology in courses, including 2D and 3D CAD patternmaking, garment fitting (live and virtual), Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator (including AI-generative features)

Responsibilities

• Teach undergraduate lecture and studio courses related to apparel and soft goods product development and sourcing.
• Potential to teach related courses in fashion communication, trend forecasting, and retail merchandising.
• Support faculty and students in course development/projects involving product development and sourcing-related opportunities.
• Work collaboratively with the fashion design and merchandising program to ensure course alignment with industry needs and student demand.
• Serve as liaison between the fashion design and merchandising program and the apparel industry.
• Participate in curriculum planning, serve on committees, and fulfill other responsibilities normally associated with an assistant teaching professor position.
