About The Position

Primary Function The Assistant Teacher supports the day-to-day care of Club members, helping to foster a physically and emotionally safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment. This role plays a vital part in building trusting relationships, ensuring consistent supervision, and helping members feel seen, supported, and empowered throughout the day. Key Responsibilities Creating a Safe & Supportive Environment Participate in Pre-Employment Training and ongoing professional development, including trauma-informed and youth development practices. Work collaboratively with all staff to ensure that each member is emotionally and physically safe, cared for, and supported throughout the day. Greet members and families with warmth and professionalism at drop-off and pick-up. Provide clear, respectful communication and refer any questions to a supervisor as needed. Support programming that values member voice, encourages choice, and respects diverse learning styles and emotional needs. Help maintain organized and emotionally safe spaces where members can learn, play, and build positive relationships. Uphold health, safety, and licensing standards, including accurate DHS documentation. Programming & Member Engagement Assist in planning and delivering daily programs that are developmentally appropriate, engaging, and responsive to the needs of all members. Encourage member participation by building relationships rooted in empathy, trust, and consistency. Set up and help facilitate program and activity areas, ensuring spaces are clean, welcoming, and well-prepared. Model respectful behavior and provide supportive redirection using positive behavior guidance techniques. Ensure all data is accurately collected and entered into Daxko and other BGCBC software. Team Collaboration & Growth Actively contribute to a team environment that values feedback, reflection, and mutual support. Attend and participate in regular staff meetings and required trainings. Communicate clearly and respectfully with team members to ensure consistency in expectations, supervision, and member support. Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Willingness and ability to complete a minimum of 15 hours of training through the Division of Child Care and Early Childhood Education (DCCECE) Professional Development Registry or Department of Education.
  • Ability to implement inclusive and engaging activities that meet the developmental and emotional needs of youth.
  • Understanding of group dynamics and youth behavior, with a focus on empathy, patience, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with peers and supervisors.
  • High energy, emotional maturity, and flexibility.
  • Ability to navigate diverse personalities and situations with empathy, tact, and sound judgment.
  • Capable of maintaining calm and professionalism in active or high-stress situations.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with children or youth, preferred.
