About The Position

The Assistant Teacher at the YMCA Learning Center is responsible for implementing and supervising daily activities for children from infants to youth. This role focuses on fostering children's social, physical, spiritual, and mental growth in a safe and organized environment, ensuring a quality childcare program that aligns with the YMCA's mission and core values.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• One year of child care experience preferred.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications to be obtained within 60 days of employment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Desire and ability to work with children of all ages and developmental levels.
• Must be alert at all times, prioritizing safety.
• Ability to work under pressure in a somewhat disruptive environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide a safe and healthy environment for children.
• Care for children at various developmental levels.
• Complete the required 45-hour Introductory Child Care Training.
• Attend staff meetings and meet in-service training requirements.
• Assist in planning and implementing daily lesson plans.
• Ensure quality of supplies, equipment, and materials.
• Report suspicions of child abuse to authorities.
• Follow proper sign-in/out procedures for children.
• Report accidents to the Supervisor and complete health logs.
• Maintain cleanliness and safety in the childcare area.
• Perform regular housekeeping chores related to daily activities.
• Establish relationships with each child, treating them with respect.
• Promote positive parent/staff relations.
• Participate in enrollment retention, special events, and fundraising.
• Complete all paperwork clearly and concisely.
• Stay updated on emergency procedures and family center policies.
• Promote the YMCA's mission and core values in all activities.
