About The Position

The Assistant Teacher for Prek at Marillac St. Vincent Family Services is responsible for planning and implementing a child development program designed for the emotional, social, educational, and physical development of young children. This role operates under the direction of the Child Development Supervisor and Director, ensuring that the agency's philosophy and objectives are met. The position requires creating a secure learning environment, guiding family-style mealtimes, and fostering children's self-esteem and problem-solving skills. The Assistant Teacher will also collaborate with the teaching team to assess children's development and implement individualized educational activities.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor in Early Childhood/Child Development from an accredited college or university is desired.
  • Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in group childcare.
  • Minimum 30 semester hours (or 60 quarter hours) of credits in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
  • Gateway ECE Level 1 certification.
  • Commitment to pursue an Associate degree in Early Childhood Education.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish) is preferred.
  • Experience with NAEYC standards and state licensing regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Create a secure environment that invites learning through exploration and discovery.
  • Guide and implement family-style mealtimes, modeling healthy nutrition habits.
  • Communicate with children in ways that show respect and build self-esteem.
  • Assist children in resolving conflicts using a problem-solving approach.
  • Attend to children's physical needs such as hygiene and toilet training.
  • Comfort children in distress and respect cultural diversity.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences and support parents in their involvement.
  • Assess program strengths and weaknesses annually with supervisors.
  • Document and maintain confidential education information for each child.
  • Facilitate weekly team meetings and ensure timely completion of program documentation.
  • Observe, assess, and document each child's health and development.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to develop individualized education plans.
  • Plan and prepare developmentally appropriate classroom activities.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that meets licensing regulations and promotes learning.
  • Encourage parent participation and develop partnerships with families.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings, completing CEUs as needed.
