About The Position

La Causa Early Education and Care is dedicated to providing children with a safe, nurturing, and educational environment that promotes their development. We are seeking a compassionate and motivated Assistant Teacher I or II to join our team and support the daily care and growth of children in our programs. As an Assistant Teacher, you will assist in creating and maintaining a classroom environment that fosters learning, safety, and well-being. You will work closely with the teaching team, families, and program coordinators to provide quality early education and care. As an Assistant Teacher I or II, you’ll support classroom instruction, supervise and interact with children, assist with daily routines, and ensure a safe, positive, and educational environment. You will also serve as a key member of the teaching team to help children achieve developmental and educational goals.

Requirements

  • Assistant Teacher I: Levels 6–9 on WI State Registry
  • Assistant Teacher II: Levels 9–11 on WI State Registry
  • One (1) year of paid experience working with families and/or paid classroom experience
  • Infant/Toddler Credentials
  • Must complete 25 hours of in-service training on a yearly basis (calendar year)
  • Must be able to lift children up to 50 pounds
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age
  • Excellent critical thinking; able to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills appropriate for diverse audiences
  • Must successfully complete and pass all background checks (including annual checks) to include, but not limited to: Criminal History, TB Testing, and Physical.
  • Must successfully pass all required background checks and pre-employment drug screening.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English strongly preferred (required for bilingual positions)

Responsibilities

  • Act as a back-up for other teaching-related positions as needed and directed
  • Supervise and interact with children while treating all children with dignity and respect in accordance with legal, organizational, and contractual requirements
  • Ensure a safe environment to prevent accidents, illness, and injury, and respond to fire/emergency drills and actual situations
  • Monitor staff-to-child ratios and inform supervisor of any significant changes
  • Ensure that daily routines are followed and in compliance by staff, volunteers, and others, including arrival, meals, nap time, toileting needs, music time, group time, outdoor activities, transitions, clean-up, and departure
  • Follow legal, organizational, and contractual requirements, including WI Child Care Regulations and NAC standards
  • Practice and implement the duties and requirements of a mandated reporter of suspected child abuse
  • Prepare, complete, distribute, and/or submit required items by due dates, including medicine distribution logs, student notes, reports, and statistical data
  • Attend all meetings, workshops, and professional development activities as directed and/or required
  • Establish and maintain good communication, collaboration, and cooperation with all stakeholders
  • Perform other duties as assigned
