About The Position

As a member of the teaching team, the teacher assistant helps ensure that each child’s developmental needs are met. Substitute for Center staff and provide classroom support and assistance as needed.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to understand the developmental needs of children.
  • Some experience working with young children.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule and fill in wherever needed.
  • Warm and nurturing personality.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • All South Shore Stars employees should be able to lift at least 40 lbs and work in a non-sedentary environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework in early childhood education desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Be available to work a flexible part time schedule, sometimes on very short notice, to meet staffing requirements of the Center.
  • Participate in implementing curriculum and classroom activities.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining classroom environment, equipment, and materials.
  • Monitor children’s activities individually and in groups.
  • Confer with other center staff regarding educational and social progress.
  • Attend staff, team, and curriculum meetings, training and supervision as required.
  • Help organize and attend Center parent meetings and other Center events.
  • Refer concerns expressed by parents to appropriate teacher and share observations regarding parent-child interactions.
  • Prepare breakfast and snacks.
  • All other assigned duties.
