About The Position

Under the supervision of the Tasting Room Manager, the Assistant Tasting Room Manager is responsible for going above and beyond to surpass guests' expectations and deliver a top-notch Tasting Room experience. By maintaining optimal labor and wine costs, the Assistant Manager will lead a team of servers, cashiers, and bar backs, to maximize wine sales, wine club memberships, and merchandise. In addition, the Assistant Tasting Room Manager assumes the responsibility of developing, training, and upholding the department SOPS, to elevate the guest experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or two years of food and beverage, customer service, or retail management experience; or a combination of education and experience.
  • Proven experience in a sales environment, including operational budgeting, inventory, supplies, and cost management.
  • Proven experience of setting and achieving sales goals.
  • Experience in Vin65, TOCK, MICROS, POS system setup, data, entry, reporting.
  • Experience in Outlook, Excel, Word, POS, and Inventory Control System.
  • Ability to make quick and sound decisions.
  • Strong business communication skills.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain County of Riverside Food Handlers Card.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Alcohol and Beverage Control RBS Certification.
  • Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds (case of wine).
  • Stand for long periods of time in inclement weather.
  • Must be 21 years or older.

Responsibilities

  • Manage two wine tasting locations: The Tasting Room & The Reserve Room/Deck.
  • Execute all opening and closing procedures, in accordance with company procedures.
  • Assist the Tasting Room Manager with payroll reports, sales rankings, and commission calculations.
  • Control cash and other receipts by adhering to proper cash handling and reconciliation procedures in accordance to company guidelines.
  • Audit Tasting Room transactions for accuracy.
  • Oversee all tour programs including scheduling, pricing, and procedure.
  • Manage the 'Re-cork' recycling program.
  • Achieve objectives in sales, service, quality, cleanliness, and appearance of facility as set by the Tasting Room Manager.
  • Monitor the Tasting Room inventory of goods and supplies, including bags, glasses, and small wares, and order within the department budget.
  • Work with Tasting Room Manager to create promotions and incentives to maximize sales and profits.
  • Research Credit Card disputes, and guest inquiries regarding purchases.
  • Plan, and execute Tasting Room events and shopping nights for Wine Club Members and their guests that will exceed guest expectations.
  • Data mine for VIPs to identify the top 20% and host exclusive invite-only nights for these special guests.
  • Regulate and organize Tasting Room tours, limo groups, large parties, and communicate scheduled visits with associates.
  • Coordinate with the Facilities department to maintain a clean, presentable, guest and associate-friendly environment.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations and staff performance of approximately 35 associates including Servers, Cashiers, Bar Backs, Tour Guides, Limo Attendants, and Merchandising Assistants.
  • Interview, train, schedule, and coach associates. Manage performance of all associates including attendance, meal periods, performance, and standards.
  • Coordinate with HR regarding staff performance, discipline, and terminations.
  • Fill in or assist staff where needed to ensure efficient operations.
  • Council associates on how to address over-consumption of guests and how to proceed (cut-off).
  • Adhere to the WISE Academy training and constantly review with associates.
  • Fully understand and comply with all federal, state, and county regulations that pertain to alcohol consumption safety and labor requirements of the Tasting Room.
  • Understand and be able to execute Tasting Room emergency response procedures, and provide calm, reassuring assistance to guests and fellow associates in the event of an emergency.
  • Understand and adhere to the Ponte values and service standards.
  • Understand and adhere to environmental standards set by the winery.
  • Continue to find ways to elevate the guest experience and keep Ponte Winery the best in the valley.
  • Any other duties as assigned, by your Manager.
