About The Position

The JCC of Greater Columbus is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Assistant Swim Coach to support our year-round youth swim program (ages 6–17) and assist with the development of a Masters Swim Team for adults. This is a great opportunity to be part of a growing program as we transition our pre-competitive team into a USA Swimming-affiliated competitive program. The ideal candidate is a positive, team-oriented coach with strong communication skills and a passion for helping swimmers improve technique, build confidence, and develop a love for the sport.

Requirements

  • 1–3 years of swim coaching or competitive swimming experience preferred
  • Knowledge of competitive swimming techniques and all four strokes
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to motivate and engage swimmers of various ages and abilities
  • Willingness to learn and grow within a team-oriented coaching staff
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends for practices and meets

Nice To Haves

  • USA Swimming Coach Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Previous experience working with youth swimmers
  • Interest in growing within a competitive swim program
  • Experience assisting with Masters or adult swim programs

Responsibilities

  • Youth Swim Team (Ages 6–18) Assist in implementing age-appropriate training plans focused on stroke development, endurance, and competitive readiness
  • Support the Head Coach and Aquatics Director in daily team operations, including practice setup, swimmer evaluations, and goal-setting
  • Provide on-deck coaching support during practices and assist with meet preparation
  • Attend swim meets as assigned to support swimmers and coaching staff
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging team environment
  • Masters Swim Team (Adults) Assist with structured practices for adult swimmers of varying ability levels
  • Provide stroke feedback and encouragement to support individual goals (fitness, triathlon, or competition)
  • Help create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all participants
  • Additional Responsibilities: Assist with supervision and mentorship of swimmers during practices and events
  • Maintain current USA Swimming and CPR/First Aid certifications (or obtain upon hire)
  • Communicate effectively with swimmers, families, and staff as directed by the Head Coach
  • Support administrative tasks such as attendance tracking and meet preparation
  • Ensure all safety protocols and facility guidelines are followed
