About The Position

The Assistant Swim Coach will lead or co-lead children’s swimming programs. Depending on background, experience and certifications, they may be given the opportunity to organize, help train supervise the Assistant Swim Coaches at practices and meets and teach private swimming lessons. Instruction must be conducted with safety as a priority. Swim Coaches must be self motivated, organized, communicate well and be willing to do whatever it takes to build relationships with our membership. Swim Coaches will be required to assist at department events (even on some holidays), and attend Aquatics, Club and Company meetings. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school education, GED, or equivalent experience
  • A proven track record in competitive swimming at the state or national level or four years experience coaching swim teams
  • An eye for children’s safety
  • Speaks English fluently
  • Positive and friendly attitude
  • Very organized, good at planning and communicating
  • Mindset for delivering superior customer service and programming
  • Eye for cleanliness
  • Eye for children’s safety
  • Possess computer skills
  • Strong writing and math skills
  • Ability to read and perform written and verbal instructions.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (Must obtain certifications within 3 weeks of hire).

Responsibilities

  • Service the members needs with genuine care.
  • Ensure the safety of the children participating in the program before, after and during practices or meets.
  • Support all members of the Aquatics Team.
  • Arrive on time to set up a class area and greet members prior to each class.
  • Provide pre-written workouts for staff to follow or staffing plans for swim meets.
  • Provide organized programs that are safe, innovative and incorporate the most current ideas in the industry
  • Keep swim gear organized, put items away after use.
  • Communicate and respond within 24 hours to members and managers requests.
  • If teaching private lessons, must adhere to the same responsibilities and expectations as a Swim Instructor.
  • Following classes, make sure the pool area is clean and organized.
  • Report problems and potential hazards to the Head Coach, Head Lifeguard, Aquatics Manager or Aquatics Director.
  • Provide time sheets that are accurate, complete and turned in by deadline.
  • Assist during emergencies.
  • Contribute to the safety and security of the pool areas by reporting unusual or suspicious behaviors.
  • Maintain current certifications. If anything lapses, you will not be permitted to work
  • Other duties as assigned.
