About The Position

Under the direction of the Head Swim Coach, the Assistant Swim Coach will assist in the operation of the CARA swim team program within the Trails Parks and Recreation District. This role involves assisting in the planning and execution of swim practices, providing guidance and feedback to swimmers, and fostering a positive and competitive team environment.

Requirements

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the Aquatics Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Specialist, Head Coach, Pool Managers, Head Lifeguards, District staff, and the general public
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in written form
  • Possess skills to maintain a safe environment, as well as performing quality work
  • Reliable transportation or a means to make it to work shifts on time
  • Ability to understand, comprehend, and follow all policies and procedures and verbalized and written instructions directed by management.
  • Ability to work effectively using programming software for staff scheduling, Trails operations, programming, and payroll participation.
  • Swim Team experience as a participant and/or coach.
  • Valid First Aid, AED, & CPR certification for children and adults.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability and availability to work holidays (Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Labor Day) as well as early morning, daytime, evening, and weekend availability.
  • Experience teaching group and private swimming lessons.
  • Experience coaching recreational and/or competitive swim team(s).
  • Current CPO/AFO certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures positive public relations and responsible for assisting the Head Coach in rectifying problems with patrons enrolled in the CARA program.
  • Assumes prescribed responsibilities in times of emergency.
  • Establishes and maintains a working environment conducive to positive morale, individual style, quality, creativity and teamwork.
  • Must maintain a positive and friendly attitude while engaged in stressful and/or controversial situations with patrons, co-workers, and supervisors.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Recognizes and effectively responds to emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan.
  • Assists the head coach in scheduling, setting up practices for the team.
  • Dress and appearance are consistent with Aquatics department standards including uniform requirements and personal hygiene.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
