About The Position

In this position, the Assistant Swim Coach/Swim Instructor will lead or co-lead children’s swimming programs, ranging from competitive team practices to private and group lessons. This role focuses on delivering high-quality, safe, and innovative aquatic instruction while building strong relationships with the Club membership. Depending on background, experience, and certifications, Coaches may be given the opportunity to teach children’s private lessons and group lessons, or they may only teach classes within the scope of their background and experience. Instruction must be conducted with safety as a priority. Coaches or Instructors must be positive, energetic, outgoing, and passionate. They should possess a fun loving attitude, remain self-motivated and organized, and communicate effectively to build relationships with our members. Additionally, this role will be required to attend department events (including some holidays) as well Aquatics, Club and Company meetings. This role is critical to maintaining the luxury standard and reputation of The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa while upholding the highest levels of discretion and professionalism.

Requirements

  • High school education, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification (Must obtain certifications within 3 weeks of hire).
  • A current Water Safety Instructor (WSI), YMCA Swim Instructor, Swim America or equivalent certification or a minimum of one year of swimming instruction experience is required.

  • Schedule: Monday – Friday & One Saturday for the camp meet.
  • Assistant Swim Coach: Flat rate.
  • Swim Instructor: Commission: 50% for all private swim lessons and 40% for all group programs.

  • Prior customer service experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve members' needs with genuine care and respond to all member or manager requests within 24 hours.
  • Ensure the safety of children before, during, and after practices or meets; report any hazards or suspicious behavior to leadership immediately.
  • Arrive on time to set up class areas and greet members; following sessions, ensure the pool area is clean and all equipment is stored properly.
  • Follow pre-written workouts, provide positive corrective feedback, and deliver innovative programs that meet industry standards.
  • Keep detailed client histories, lesson plans, and course records.
  • Support all Aquatics Team members and assist during emergencies as required.
  • Maintain all required certifications; if a certification lapses, you will be ineligible to work.
  • Adhere to all Swim Instructor expectations and responsibilities when conducting private sessions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
