About The Position

Assistant Survey Manager At Hi-Way Paving, we are general contractors in the construction field that specialize in significant amounts of concrete paving, storm drainage, and excavation on highways and airfields. We are seeking an experienced Assistant Survey Manager to lead and manage all surveying activities across our construction projects in Nashville. The successful candidate will oversee site surveying teams, ensure accuracy of setting out and as-built surveys, and provide technical expertise to support project delivery on time and within budget. This position is a key support role that helps keep projects moving efficiently by ensuring survey work is accurate, timely, and aligned with field operations. It’s a strong opportunity for an experienced survey professional looking to grow into broader leadership responsibility over time. This position will be based in Nashville, Tennessee, but may require occasional travel to other sites.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of construction surveying experience, including CAD knowledge (required)
  • Strong working knowledge of heavy civil construction methods and survey techniques (required)
  • Proficiency with surveying equipment and software such as Leica, Trimble, Topcon, AutoCAD, and Carlson (required)
  • Ability to manage priorities and respond to changing field conditions
  • Clear and effective communication skills with field crews, project teams, and management
  • Ability to gain clearance for restricted/high-security zones (e.g., airport AOA, military bases).
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 lbs., climb, walk, kneel, squat, push, pull, and enter confined spaces.
  • Must be at least 18 years old to meet job-site safety and labor requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting or assisting with the coordination of survey teams on large-scale projects (preferred)
  • Background in infrastructure, roadway, airport, or major civil construction projects
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with high attention to detail
  • If applicable, indicate union affiliation in your application.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Survey Manager in coordinating construction surveying activities across multiple job sites
  • Assist with day-to-day oversight of survey crews, including surveyors and survey assistants
  • Perform and verify layout, leveling, control, and as-built surveys to ensure accuracy
  • Help maintain survey control networks and ensure data integrity and consistency
  • Review plans and design information; assist in resolving survey-related discrepancies in the field
  • Work closely with project managers, engineers, and field leadership to support production needs
  • Ensure survey work complies with project plans, specifications, and tolerances
  • Assist with as-built documentation and project closeout requirements
  • Promote and support adherence to safety, quality, and company standards
  • Utilize and support surveying technologies, including GPS, total stations, and 3D models
