About The Position

GAI Consultants, Inc. is seeking a Survey Technician to work out of our Southpointe, PA office. The ideal candidate will learn survey terminology and references, equipment calibration techniques, conduct measurements required for technical survey work, and learn to set up tripods and other basic equipment. Experience is not required, we will train the right individual

Requirements

Must be able to endure inclement weather (extreme heat, cold, etc.).
Must wade through the water; ability to ride in a boat and swimming skills are preferred.
Must be able to be exposed to heights and moderate to difficult terrains, these conditions may require certain motor skills (i.e. climbing, hiking, wading, etc.) while having the ability to safely use hand tools, etc.
Must be able to withstand a physically demanding job, carrying between 25 - 50 lbs. routinely.
Must be able to walk for lengthy periods of time.
Must wear a shirt, long pants, and boots at all times on job sites.
Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable driving record for insurability purposes.
Continues to acquire basic skills; good visual and hearing skills, follows procedures; good organizational skills; working in weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, etc.); works with safety in mind, must be flexible with work hours and willingness to travel up to 100% during the week days and occasional weekend travel and/or work, able to do physically demanding work; ability to lift and carry between 25 and 50 lbs. routinely; ability to walk for lengthy periods; wear shirt, long pants and boots as a minimum while on the job

Capable of learning survey nomenclature, ability to set up tri-pods, basic equipment usage, usage and care of delicate and expensive equipment; learn the basics of equipment calibration, must have a steady hand and allow for proper measurements required for survey technical work; must be able to occasionally work at heights in certain environmental conditions, wade through water; ride in a boat; swimming skills (Preferred); that may include but not limited to heights, moderate to difficult terrains, aquatic environments/vessels, and inclement weather. These conditions may require certain motor skills (i.e. climbing, hiking, wading, etc.) ability to safely use hand tools, etc.
Receives close supervision on work assignments.
Ability to take direction from a leader.
Possess basic oral and written communication skills; interacts well with other staff, ability to function positively in a team environment.

Responsibilities

Apply theory and principles of surveying to modify, test, and operate survey equipment.
Work both in office environments and in the field.
Handle basic issues and problems and refers more complex issues to higher-level staff.
Produce tabulating data, and prepares field notes, and sketches.
Possess strong organizational skills.
Follow all safety policies, requirements, and wear proper PPE.
