About The Position

Under the general direction of the designated supervisor the Wastewater Collection Supervisor, the employee is responsible for the direct supervision of repair/rehabilitation, operation, and maintenance of the wastewater collection system. Employees in this class have a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of wastewater collection systems and the operations related to it. They are responsible for managing all associated personnel with responsibilities in the work, equipment, materials, and supplies. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Four years of experience in installation, maintenance, and repair of sewer collection systems or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • At least two years of experience managing or leading a team in completing such work.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics, services, and activities of a wastewater collection system maintenance program.
  • Knowledge of specialized methods and equipment used in sewer repair/rehabilitation.
  • Knowledge of current safety policies and procedures, OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with customers, co-workers, and direct reports.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency as a Wastewater Collection Operator 1 or 2.
  • An Associate's degree or 18 semester credit hours in Environmental Science, Chemistry, Engineering, Surveying, or a related field.

Responsibilities

  • Plan the scope of projects with WWC repair/rehabilitation crews and City contractors.
  • Direct and observe work performed by sewer repair/rehabilitation, maintenance, and customer service crews.
  • Complete performance ratings and discuss results with employees.
  • Investigate and process damage claims, accidents, and employee conduct.
  • Utilize a variety of Windows-based computer applications including GIS-based Computerized Maintenance Management Systems.
  • Review condition assessment videos of infrastructure and issue applicable work orders.
  • Assist in training and developing employees.
  • Provide feedback to senior management and discuss workflows and policy improvements.

  • Possess or obtain State of Ohio certification (OEPA) as a Class 1 Wastewater Collection System Operator during the probationary period.
