About The Position

To assist the Supervisor of Science in administering and enhancing all aspects of the comprehensive HCPS Science Program, with a focus on overseeing the Harford Glen Environmental Center and Residential Program.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree or equivalency from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold or be eligible for an Advanced Professional Certificate (APC) endorsed in Science and Administrator I or Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, and Principal endorsement.
  • Five years of successful teaching experience with demonstrated proficiency in science.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office software and other related computer technology.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork required.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior building-based administrative experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Supervisor of Science in providing leadership for the comprehensive HCPS Science Program.
  • Provides instructional leadership for the Harford Glen Environmental Education Center.
  • Oversees and manages the Harford Glen Environmental Education Center facility and budget.
  • Supervises the professional and support staff assigned to the Harford Glen Environmental Education Center.
  • Manages the grounds of Harford Glen, which operates as a park during the summer and on weekends from April – October, with a particular focus on safety and land management.
  • Assists in curriculum and assessment development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Assists in planning and implementing professional development programs to promote improvements in teacher and student performance.
  • Participates in the observation and evaluation process of science teachers.
  • Assists in the recruitment, selection, and placement of science teachers.
  • Serves as a consultant to teachers, administrators, and others at all levels regarding the science program and effective teaching practices.
  • Participates on Environmental related committees and workgroups designed to enhance environmental literacy and Green School initiatives.
  • Coordinates science activities sponsored by a variety of private and governmental agencies.
  • Assists the Supervisor in providing support and leadership to teacher specialists and teachers assigned to the Office of Science.
  • Participates in the review, acquisition, utilization, and evaluation of grants to support science education.
  • Provides direction associated with environmental education and literacy efforts.
  • Serves as a liaison for regional, state, and local environmental programming efforts.
  • Serves as a representative for Harford Glen, the Office of Science, and Harford County Public Schools by being an ambassador of the program.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
  • Due to the residential nature of the program, there may be times when an emergency would require administrator support after normal duty hours.
