About The Position

The function of the Assistant Program Supervisor is to ensure the day-to-day operations of the agency’s kinship caregiving program run smoothly, outreach activities and referral processes are occurring, and its service delivery elements are in place to bring about the program’s desired outcomes.

Requirements

  • 40 hours weekly, with flexibility as certain deadlines and unanticipated developments may require work beyond regular scheduled hours.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in a human services field is required.
  • Ability to act in the place of the program supervisor, in a temporary capacity, as assigned.
  • Experience working with clients who exhibit significant emotional, behavioral, and interpersonal challenges, mental health diagnoses and trauma history, is highly preferred.
  • Experience with the (non-physical) de-escalation elements of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and trauma-responsive care, with the ability to respond effectively and therapeutically in crisis situations.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to connect family members with various community resources.
  • TCI Trainer certification and experience using TCI strategies and techniques with children who exhibit emotional and behavioral difficulties is highly preferred.
  • Current Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED Instructor certification preferred.
  • Clean and Valid New York State Driver’s License (actively licensed at least one year) is required.
  • Excellent organization, planning and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite, Google Business Workspace Suite, and use secure Internet practices.
  • Experience with AWARDS is a plus.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.
  • Experience with electronic learning management systems is a plus!

  • Staff in driving positions must be able to meet the agency’s minimum requirements of our insurance policy for authorized drivers; including, but not limited to the minimum age of 21 at time of hire, and the ability to maintain insurability throughout employment.

Responsibilities

  • Supports each assigned family, including caregivers and children, with the matters of permanency that keep the family-unit whole.
  • Provides program leadership, as assigned by the program supervisor, to ensure day-to-day operations occur as planned.
  • Proactively visits the caregiver homes on a regular, prescribed basis.
  • Documents services and casework as required by St. Catherine’s and NYS-OCFS policies and regulations.
  • Is the primary “manager” of kinship caregiving cases, completing strength-based assessments and other case management duties that inform services and goal-setting -- coordination of services, internal and external service referrals, and refining of services through a case conference process.
  • Oversees program services, including support groups for kinship caregivers and children.
  • Oversees family engagement and educational activities; ensures respite services are being provided.
  • Maintains steady and regular connection with the families, promoting their engagement with the program.
  • Facilitates the discharge planning elements for each assigned family.
  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
