Bargaining Unit: UUP Job Summary: The Department of Clinical Laboratories, Chemistry & Immunology at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time Assistant Supervisor / TH Clinical Laboratory Technologist 1. The successful candidate will: Functions as Assistant Supervisor, responsible for the operations of the laboratory. Maintains compliance with departmental, hospital, and all regulatory requirements. Be in charge and responsible for the operation of the laboratory, and perform day to day laboratory operations, review quality control, and performance improvement activities. Ensure timely performance of laboratory testing procedures. Trains personnel in technical methodology and interpretation of results. Record and archive test and QC results. Maintain inventory and statistics. Determine the need to rotate staff or assign staff additional duties in order to maintain work flow smoothly; schedule and assign staff to specific job functions. Assistant in coordinating administrative operations for the laboratories. Demonstrate flexibility as the duties and responsibilities are not limited to the above description; perform other job-related duties as business needs warrant and/or are necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology, Physical or Biological Sciences or equivalent field.
  • New York State Laboratory Technologist Licensure.
  • 4+ years of experience in Chemistry and Immunology laboratories.
  • Or, a satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training to the above.

Nice To Haves

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Certification preferred.
