The Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Schools ensures all aspects of accountability and performance at assigned schools. This position provides leadership, administrative direction, supervision and technical support. The Assistant Superintendent will conduct regular school visits to assess both educational and operational effectiveness, providing feedback and assistance to school administrators. The Assistant Superintendent evaluates principals as well as provides recommendations to the Superintendent regarding the hiring and dismissal of administrators.

  • Is present at work every day and arrives at the assigned time.
  • Provides primary leadership of assigned schools utilizing district policies, administrative regulations, state rules, statutes, employee contracts and budget guidelines.
  • Monitors and evaluates all aspects of College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI), Georgia Milestones, and other state required assessments at each assigned school to ensure improved performance, progress and increased student achievement.
  • Ensures effective implementation of the Rockdale County Public Schools' (RCPS) Cycle for Results to improve teaching and learning at all assigned schools.
  • Collaboratively develops instructional goals, priorities, and academic performance objectives for schools and leaders that parallel district and board goals.
  • Monitors, evaluates and supports the implementation of research-based instructional practices, intervention strategies, and resources for individual students and subgroups.
  • Supervises and evaluates principals with a significant emphasis on teaching and coaching to improve principal capacity and autonomy.
  • Provides professional learning opportunities for principals based on individual and/or group needs.
  • Ensures compliance and effective implementation of state and federal grants.
  • Supervises Response to Intervention (RTI) and 504 processes at all schools with an emphasis on implementation, compliance and monitoring.
  • Collaborates with other central office administrators to provide resources to improve leader and teacher effectiveness.
  • Responds to inquiries and concerns from parents, external agencies, community groups and individual patrons.
  • Monitors schools' compliance to all GHSA, One Act, and other competition eligibility rules and guidelines (as appropriate for the level of supervision).
  • Prepares and presents reports/responses as assigned.
  • Provides instructional leadership for instructional programs, evaluation of academic programs, development and coordination of teaching and learning planning and related activities.
  • Ensures accurate budget development and expenditure controls by appropriate use of resources, materials and supplies.
  • Contributes to a positive educational climate in the district and in the community by involving appropriate parties, sensitivity to others, multi-directional communication with staff and community, and application of sound judgment.
  • Contributes to the recruitment and retention of quality staff by participating in the selection and recommendation for the hiring of administrators.
  • Supervises and monitors compliance with discipline and safety requirements to ensure safe and orderly school environments.
  • Provides development, leadership, monitoring and training on specific initiatives designed to increase student achievement in conjunction with the Division of Human Resources.
  • Functions in a supportive and collaborative manner.
  • Attends approved training sessions, professional learning activities and required meetings.
  • Complies with all requirements for mandatory reporting of child abuse, illegal harassment, or criminal activity for which the employee becomes aware.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Supervisor.
  • Master's degree in a related field is required.
  • Requires valid Georgia Educator's Certificate in Educational Leadership at level L-5, NL-5, PL-6 or above.
  • Specialist or doctorate degree in related field is preferred.
  • Documented success and experience as a proficient or exemplary level principal are required.
  • Minimum of five years Principalship required.
  • Proven experience leading and supporting academic programs and services is preferred.
  • Must possess leadership skills appropriate to solve complex problems.
  • Ability to organize and manage time, personnel, fiscal, and material resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with an array of diverse customers and audiences.
  • Requires functional understanding, knowledge, and skills appropriate to lead and support schools including knowledge of programs and procedures relative to local, state and national laws, policies and regulations.
  • Experience with special student populations including special education, gifted learners, English Language Learners, Response to Intervention (RTI) and students with 504 plans.
  • Position works 230 contracted days.
  • Paid on the Executive Director scale of the Administrative salary schedule.
