About The Position

The primary purpose of the Assistant Superintendent is to support the Senior Director, Agronomy and Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in overseeing daily golf course maintenance operations. This position also assists in staff development by providing education, training, motivation, and creativity, while maintaining the confidentiality of Club business. Essential Functions of the Job In conjunction with the Senior Director and Superintendent directs and oversees staff in daily activities by scheduling work assignments, monitoring quality and quantity of work performed, providing input and ensuring proper procedures are followed and the highest standards are maintained. Serves as a liaison between staff and management. Supervises and maintains equipment and job task training programs. Ensures all training activity is documented. Supervises the turf scout program, and the fertilizer application programs under the direction of the Senior Director, Agronomy. Assists with interviewing applicants and conducting performance evaluations under the direction of the Senior Director. Coordinates, schedules, monitors, and takes bid proposals for special projects on the golf course. Communicates work progress, changes, delays, or any other situation which merits attention with the Senior Director, Agronomy. Assists the Superintendent in documenting pesticide and fertilizer inventories. Develops, implements, and trains agronomy employees on departmental policy and training manuals. Writes and maintains up to date job tasks for the department. Provides orientation to new employees on departmental policy. Monitors and oversees the Rae’s Creek Dam and the maintenance of the Dam House. Administers departmental orientation processes to new golf course employees. In conjunction with the Senior Manager, Safety and Club policy; ensures a safe and clean work environment for all employees by enforcing OSHA and EPA regulations and Federal and State laws. Monitors and oversees the Stimp System. Physical demands are outlined immediately below. Physical Demands Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties Constantly required to use arms, hands, and fingers to handle or lift items up to 50 pounds. Constantly required to stand, walk, climb, or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, reach with hands and arms and/or drive a golf cart. Use vision to perform activity such as but not limited to preparing and analyzing data and figures, visual inspection involving property maintenance, hazards, and safety violations, and/or operation of machines (including inspection). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Other Duties and Responsibilities Submits weather data records for review by the Superintendent. Provides input to equipment upgrades, projects, and staff development. Provides grounds maintenance support to the crew as needed. Attends seminars and workshops for continued professional growth and development. Receives suggestions from staff for improvements to procedure, equipment, etc. and makes recommendations to the Senior Director, Agronomy. Performs all other duties deemed by management to be an integral part of the job.

Requirements

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work successfully in a team-oriented environment
  • Effective time management skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects and high workloads with high attention for detail
  • Working knowledge of MS Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of Turfgrass management and general business management practices
  • Knowledge of irrigation design, construction, repair, and maintenance
  • Minimum of three (3) years combined work experience as an Assistant Superintendent and/or AIT at another golf course or minimum of two years AIT experience at ANGC
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum two (2) year certificate from an accredited Turfgrass management program or related field
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and/or successfully completes the Club’s internal motor vehicle training program

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of GPS devices desired
  • Landscaping and construction experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Turfgrass Management or related field preferred
