About The Position

The Assistant Superintendent provides leadership, direction, and oversight for the district’s instructional programs. This role is responsible for supporting curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development efforts aimed at improving student achievement. The position supervises the building principals and key district-level instructional leaders.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership/Administration.
  • Experience teaching different grade levels.
  • Experience as a building-level administrator.
  • Arkansas Superintendent License or District Administrator license.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, oversees, and manages day-to-day operations, educational programs, and services for the district.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and evaluates functions related to curriculum, instruction, and professional development.
  • Supports, supervises, and evaluates school principals, instructional facilitators, and administrative supervisors (ESL Supervisor).
  • Directs, plans, evaluates, and provides leadership for the instructional programs with a focus on curriculum/instruction, assessment/accountability, and professional development.
  • Supervises and evaluates building principals.
  • Supervises and evaluates the District Test Coordinator and Dyslexia Services Coordinator.
  • Supervises and evaluates elementary instructional facilitators.
  • Supervises and evaluates district-level ESL Supervisor, Migrant Coordinator, and GT Coordinator.
  • Plans and facilitates regular meetings with instructional facilitators to plan ongoing instructional support for teachers and students.
  • Coordinates the PLC process for school buildings: establishing essential standards, common formative assessments, data analysis, curriculum, and revisions with instructional facilitators, principals, and core teacher teams.
  • Leads and monitors the multi-tiered system of support for Tiers 1, 2, and 3.
  • Monitors elementary performance on state-required and district assessments.
  • Assists principals with data analysis and action planning for improved student achievement.
  • Works with the superintendent to facilitate the development of an annual district Pre-K–12th professional development plan; ensures proper implementation of the PD plan.
  • Communicates instructional policies, practices, and procedures to staff.
  • Creates and manages budgets related to curriculum, instructional resources, and professional development.
  • Facilitates the selection and ordering of campus instructional materials.
  • Assists in the hiring of building administrators.
  • Assists HR as it relates to the staffing of new positions/programs based on enrollment/need.
  • Assists in the planning, opening, or expansion of school facilities.
  • Responds to parent concerns.
  • Serves as first level for student disciplinary appeals.
  • Acts as the district internship liaison between any universities and the district for internship placements Pre-K thru 12th grade.
  • Tracks the Science of Reading progress and status for all certified staff Pre-K–12th as well as new hires.
  • Acts as the district Novice Mentoring Project Director for Pre-K–12th, coordinating the mentoring system for the district for novice years 1–3.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
