The Power & Utility Assistant Superintendent is responsible for the safety, environmental, and reliability performance of the Mill's steam, air, and water systems. The major assets managed include a wood-fired power boiler, two steam turbine generators, Mill water intake clarification, primary and secondary waste-water treatment, including all associated auxiliary systems. This position will assist the area Superintendent in leading a team with the purpose of maximizing asset availability and efficiency without impacting safety or environmental performance. The Power and Utility Assistant Superintendent reports to the Superintendent and is responsible for providing direction to an Operations Maintenance Coordinator, Process Engineering, and Process Control support. The position is also accountable for the operator training program within the department.

Requirements

• A BS degree in Engineering or equivalent Power and Utility supervisory experience.
• 5+ years of Power and Utility Supervisory Experience is preferred.
• Strong troubleshooting and decision-making skills required.
• Strong organizational skills and acumen for analytical tools to provide direction to Process Engineer.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Computer skills /ability to develop proficiency is mandatory.
• Respond to department issues after hours, weekends, holidays as required.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate characteristics that align with the Mill's culture drivers of Leadership, Ownership, and Engagement.
• Improve and build systems and processes to ensure improvements in Safety, Housekeeping, and Reliability are functional, effective, and sustainable.
• Actively participate in the Mill's RCFA, Outage Preparation, and Asset Strategy Management processes.
• Actively assist in developing a safety culture at the floor level resulting in an injury free workplace and assist in implementing Power and Recovery safety efforts at the crew level.
• Develop and implement process to promote safety engagement with operating team members.
• Lead the Power and Utility department in all aspects including safety, environmental, reliability, and asset efficiency.
• Implement and drive process to ensure Operator Basic Care routes are completed and operator logs are reviewed multiple times per day.
• Prepare and plan for routine and annual outages and Lock Out/Tag Out and lead the execution strategy.
• Serve as the floor level lead in the implementation of a Continuous Improvement culture.
• Support the cost reduction process. Monitor costs (chemical, maintenance, etc.) and develop cost reduction priorities. Implement cost reduction processes.
• Ensure department ISO KPIs are reviewed, and corrective actions are taken when necessary.
• Drive completion of open action items generated from employee safety concerns, environmental performance, internal and external audits, and from the RCFA and MOC processes.
• Support the maintenance work management process to drive equipment reliability.
• Facilitate the development of the knowledge and skills of employees to improve asset performance.
• Periodic weekend duty coverage as the Fiberline and Power & Recovery representative.
• Actively demonstrate support for Power and Utility Superintendent and assigned department team core, including attending department meetings.
• Develop a positive, proactive, enthused, and energized workforce.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Area Superintendent.
