About The Position

Austin Bridge & Road has an outstanding opportunity for an Assistant Superintendent to join our Heavy Civil project team supporting Gainesville, Texas. The Assistant Superintendent's primary purpose is to support the day-to-day field construction activities, assisting the Superintendent or Project Manager with the overall project management and ensuring efficient operations.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, including roadways, bridges, or large infrastructure projects. Aviation construction experience is a plus.
  • Strong leadership skills, with the ability to support and manage field crews and subcontractors.
  • Proficient in construction management software such as HCSS Heavy Job, with the ability to maintain accurate and detailed reports.
  • Knowledge of safety practices, dedicated to maintaining a safe jobsite and enforcing safety protocols.
  • Flexible and willing to work night shifts or extended schedules as needed.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, subcontractors, and project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in day-to-day construction activities, supporting the Superintendent in ensuring efficient operations, adherence to schedules, and compliance with safety protocols.
  • Support safety planning and monitoring, including identifying hazards, designating first aid areas, and assisting with jobsite safety practices and inspections.
  • Help with site layout and planning, coordinating office placements, utility hookups, storage, and crane/hoist locations in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Develop and manage daily and weekly craft schedules, ensuring alignment with the project timeline and resolving potential issues in advance.
  • Monitor materials, supplies, and equipment, managing efficient usage and cost tracking while ensuring timely ordering and proper maintenance.
  • Conduct inspections of construction work, including subcontractor activities, and help address quality deficiencies in collaboration with the Superintendent.
  • Assist with tracking costs and labor, evaluating schedule impacts, and implementing adjustments to optimize productivity and budget adherence.
