About The Position

Under the direction of the Summer Camp Manager, the Assistant Summer Camp Manager will assist with the development and implementation of all camp activities and supervision of staff working in overnight and day camp. The Assistant Summer Camp Manager will provide a safe and nurturing environment for everyone; will be actively involved in day-to-day operations and convey a positive experience for all campers and staff. This is a seasonal position that requires living on -site Sunday-Friday during camp season as well as participation in training one week prior to camp operation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in early childhood or education, recreation or a related filed
  • 3 years’ experience working with latency age youth
  • Team approach to work collaboratively with others
  • Certification in First Aid/CPR/ AED by a nationally recognized organization
  • Strong creative skills to ensure meaningful experiences for campers
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations quickly
  • Flexible and good natured, patience working with others.
  • Able to perform work in seasonal summer climate that includes high degree of temperatures without air conditioning. Ability to stand and move about for long periods of time. Ability to see, hear, read and write
  • Able to lift to 30 pounds

Responsibilities

  • Always maintain professional boundaries. Present self in a mature and responsible manner.
  • Connect quickly with staff and campers. Develop and maintain personal relationships that inspire trust and confidence.
  • Assist Summer Camp Manager with development and implementation of camp curriculum and schedules. Lead activities for camp each day.
  • Assist Manager in recruitment, selection, training and provision of ongoing supervision of all camp staff.
  • Provide ongoing coaching to staff to ensure that goals are achieved and to prepare them for increased responsibilities.
  • Execute staff training curriculum. Lead training activities and/or staff meetings as assigned.
  • Execute day-to-day responsibilities to create a safe, secure and enjoyable environment.
  • Enforce a safe environment in and outside of camp buildings, follow all safety regulations including keeping campers and program areas clean and safe.
  • Anticipate and minimize potential problems with staff, campers or the environment and respond effectively to problems that occur.
  • Apply camp policies and procedures in responding and/or disciplining staff and campers.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to accidents and incidents. Assist in the conduction of investigations as may be required and per CCAB policies and procedures. Accurately prepare and submit Accident and Incident Reports in a timely manner.
  • Assist Manager in ensuring that camp counselors effectively plan, organize and lead small and large group activities. This may include evening, overnight and/or weekend events. Ensure that curriculum is followed but also allow for spontaneity, creativity and flexibility.
  • Act as a team member as evidenced by active participation in all training events and staff meetings, cooperating with and seeking out all camp staff members.
  • Positively and proactively communicate with and respond to supervisor, staff, campers and parents.
  • Actively participate in camper activities including pool and waterfront activities.
  • Assist staff in executing established procedures for supervising campers and activities including but not limited to transportation, group time, lunch and all swim times.
  • Work is performed in and outdoors at an overnight camp environment with children and adults. May be exposed to high degree of temperatures without air-conditioning. Daily exposure to sun and outdoor elements. Standing, stretching, pushing, pulling lifting and carrying to30 pounds.
  • Attend meetings and trainings.
