FUNCTION: Controls all operational functions of the store, supervises and is responsible for training of all store personnel, knows and enforces company policies and procedures, works with staff and corporate officers to enhance customer and employee relations thus creating a high volume store kept within budget restraints. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Represents the company in a professional and positive manner in each market. 2. Responsible for meeting and maintaining contribution to overhead figures on the income statement. 3. Implements company policy, procedures, and practices in the store. 4. Responsible for the in-store marketing, and visual merchandising of each area of the store ensuring proper merchandise presentation, suitable fixtures, and layout of areas. The correct pricing, ticketing, sizing, signing, and visual display. Oversee the receipt of all merchandise assigned to the store, and works with the staff to present it in a way to produce sales. 5. Oversees and is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the interior and exterior of the store working with the leased cleaning crew, own staff, the operations manager, and maintenance vendors approved by the company to provide a clean and safe shopping and working environment. Supervises the requisitioning of all maintenance and operational supplies, and providing purchase and work orders to the operations manager for approval of any expense item. 6. Oversees the hiring process in the store working with the Human Resources department to assure the correct level of associates to staff the store to the budgeted levels, and the correct coverage of all areas at any given time. Assists the Human Resources department in the selection, placement, and termination of associates. 7. Ensures the company dress standards are met within the store. 8. Supervises the precise keeping of store personnel records; including but not limited to: Change of status, wage/incentive plans, scheduling, attendance records, vacation and sick leave programs, and employee purchase records. 9. Responsible for the training of all new and existing associates at store level to assure the store is staffed with knowledgeable associates who are motivated to perform to company expectations. Schedules store meetings weekly. Topics for meetings will include but not be limited to: store policies, in store and company contests, special events, and special training classes. 10. Supervises the scheduling of all store personnel to ensure proper coverage in all departments and customer service at all times within the budget of the store. 11. Reviews and approves vacation requests for store personnel based upon the appropriate company guidelines for vacation, seniority, and events. 12. Schedules the opening and closing of the store among designated personnel. 13. Motivates sales associates to meet goals to achieve high productivity through meeting and exceeding the customer’s expectations of service and product knowledge. 14. Motivates cashiers to meet and exceed the customer’s expectations at the point of sale, to promote the Wakefield’s and Martin’s charge card program, and to oversee the control of all terminal procedures and the accounting for moneys, tickets, checks, deposits, and paperwork necessary for the successful control of the store’s business. 15. Responsible for performing an annual performance evaluation on all supervisors, and the supervision of annual performance evaluations on all store associates by the supervisors. Annual evaluations are written during the month of February each year. These evaluations are reviewed by the operations manager and are to be discussed with the employee prior to March 15 each year, and then forwarded to the Human Resources department for review and filing. 16. Make recommendations, in keeping with budget and wage guidelines, for increases in pay for store personnel. These recommendations are to be submitted to the operations manager for approval and processing. 17. Oversees the recovery of bad checks. 18. Responsible for proper check and credit authorizations in store. 19. Oversees the return policy and practices in the store. 20. Oversees and promotes the opening of new Martin’s accounts. 21. Oversees and promotes the sale of Martin’s gift cards. 22. Responsible for associate purchases and return authorization in store. 23. Oversees the control of all paperwork for the accounting of merchandise to ensure accurate inventories. Responsible for the final fiscal inventory keeping within 1% shrinkage. 24. Responsible for the overall security of the store and properties; including the control of shoplifting and internal shrinkage. 25. Responsible for all machinery, fixtures, and equipment assigned to the store. 26. Responsible for having the store ready for all advertised or non-advertised sales events. Work with the buyers, area merchandisers, and staff in the coordination of activities for promotional events to attract customers and increase sales volume. 27. Handles customer complaints. 28. Performs in the capacity of a greeter, a sales associate, a cashier, supervisor, or any other position in the store as needed. 29. Responsible to provide the Human Resources department timely information on all change of status, and all personnel related issues. 30. Keeps the buying staff updated on good items, poor performing items, and problems concerning merchandise, ads, and other buyer related issues. 31. Works with the operations manager in expense management, associate recognition programs, fixtures and layout design, special events and promotions, security issues, management staffing, equipment, and maintenance issues. 32. Informs president on current pertinent matters, makes recommendations for the improvement of the company’s efficiency, productivity, and operations results.
