About The Position

About this opportunity: This position supervises and participates in the day-to-day operations of the Family Store ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures; ensures the accountability and security of cashier funds; maintains the neatness and attractiveness of store merchandise ensuring that displays remain well-stocked; assists customers in locating items and prices and explains store policy; assists employees in resolving routine problems and performing special assignments; assumes the responsibilities of the Family Store Manager as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. and One year experience working in a retail store preferably a Salvation Army Family Store with some experience supervising the work of co-workers or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Knowledge of effective and efficient techniques for merchandising retail store items.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service techniques.
  • Ability to supervise, lead, and motivate the work of subordinate employees.
  • Ability to assume additional supervisory responsibilities in the absence of the Family Store Manager.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Duties are performed by frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
  • Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Moderate mobility; duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking on a frequent change basis.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Family Store Manager in supervising the day-to-day operations of the Family Store; trains and instructs employees in the proper methods and procedures; monitors work in progress and upon completion to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Supervises and participates in the cashier activities ensuring that all customers are treated in a polite and friendly manner; assists Store Clerks in ringing-up, recording, and receipting sales; assists Store Clerks in resolving problems; ensures the security and accountability of the cashier funds; assists in preparing daily sales reports and bank deposits.
  • Supervises and participates in maintaining the store displays; arranges, rotates, and re-stocks displayed items to ensure the displays remain in a plentiful, neat and orderly manner for customer convenience and store attractiveness.
  • Determines appropriate prices for merchandise ensuring quick turnover of stock while also bringing fair and reasonable price for The Salvation Army; detects merchandise that is not moving and reduces prices accordingly when necessary.
  • Prepares, maintains, and files various store reports, records, forms etc. including community service records; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
  • Assumes additional responsibilities in the absence of the Family Store Manager.
