About The Position

The Assistant Store Manager supports the Store Manager in overseeing daily operations, team leadership, and guest service to ensure Joseph’s Classic Market delivers a superior shopping experience. This role acts as second-in-command, helping drive operational excellence, financial performance, and a positive workplace culture. The Assistant Store Manager partners with department managers and team members to maintain high standards across all areas of the store.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory or assistant management experience in grocery, food retail, or hospitality
  • Strong knowledge of retail operations, customer service, and team leadership
  • Ability to inspire, coach, and motivate staff in a fast-paced environment
  • Financial awareness with exposure to labor scheduling, payroll, or inventory management
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • ServSafe Manager certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Flexible availability including weekends, evenings, and holidays
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Responsibilities

  • Support the Store Manager in day-to-day operations across all departments: deli, produce, meat, seafood, grocery, bakery, prepared foods, pizza, wine & cheese, and front end
  • Assist in ensuring operational efficiency, cleanliness, and consistency throughout the store
  • Conduct store walkthroughs to check merchandising, freshness, and presentation standards
  • Execute opening and closing duties, ensuring readiness, safety, and security
  • Assist in supervising department managers and supporting their teams
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and guidance to promote a guest-focused, productive culture
  • Support with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training of team members
  • Help monitor performance, attendance, and assist in corrective actions when necessary
  • Serve as acting manager in the absence of the Store Manager
  • Assist in monitoring sales, labor, and shrink metrics to achieve financial goals
  • Support scheduling, payroll preparation, and budget compliance
  • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce expenses
  • Lead by example in greeting guests, resolving issues, and promoting hospitality
  • Assist in monitoring service quality, addressing guest concerns, and ensuring satisfaction
  • Support in-store events, sampling, and engagement programs
  • Help execute merchandising plans, seasonal resets, and promotional displays
  • Partner with department teams to ensure well-stocked, fresh, and visually appealing displays
  • Enforce product rotation, signage accuracy, and pricing integrity
  • Support adherence to health, safety, and labor regulations, including ServSafe and OSHA requirements
  • Assist with inspections, audits, and compliance documentation
  • Help enforce loss prevention and emergency procedures
  • Serve as a bridge between store teams and leadership
  • Support communication of directives, policies, and initiatives across departments
  • Collaborate with HR, Marketing, and Operations on storewide programs
