The Assistant Store Manager at Dollar General plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and organized store environment with a strong focus on customer service. This position involves assisting the Store Manager in supervising employees, managing merchandise, and ensuring customer satisfaction while adhering to company policies and procedures. The Assistant Store Manager is also responsible for various operational tasks, including stocking, cashiering, and financial accountability.

  • Provide superior customer service leadership by greeting and assisting customers.
  • Open and close the store a minimum of two days per week.
  • Assist Store Manager with scheduling employees and providing adequate training.
  • Conduct safety meetings and ensure employee compliance with company policies.
  • Manage merchandise processes including receiving, unpacking, stocking, and building displays.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels and control damages and markdowns.
  • Implement and maintain planograms as directed by the Store Manager.
  • Ensure financial integrity through cashier accountability and cash control procedures.
  • Assist in managing the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
  • High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • One year of experience in a retail environment preferred.
  • Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of situations.
  • Good organization skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations such as addition, subtraction, and percentages.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and safety control policies.
  • Experience in a fast-paced retail environment.
  • Familiarity with cash register functions and generating reports.
