About The Position

The Assistant Store Director is responsible for assisting the Store Director in managing the total store operations, meeting operational budgets, and instituting company policies, procedures, and programs. The Assistant Store Director leads his/her staff by personal example and is knowledgeable of all the administrative duties within the store. The primary responsibility is to oversee Grocery department operations and to lead and motivate the staff to deliver Grocery department sales and profitability goals.

Requirements

  • Exceptional communication skills (oral and written) and demonstrated ability to handle a diverse crew in a stressful environment.
  • Five to seven years in the industry with two years in a manager or Assistant Manager position
  • Thorough knowledge of the retail food business, thorough knowledge of perishable department operations, merchandising skills, must be able to make timely and effective decisions.
  • Have and show an outgoing and friendly behavior along with a positive attitude and the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with customers and all personnel.
  • Four years of college development or accredited courses - BA or High School education or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good organizational skills, with a full understanding of operation systems and bookkeeping procedures.
  • Possess a proven leadership ability to build, motivate and maintain staff, while possessing a working knowledge of personnel reports, margin reports, weekly sales numbers, and financial goals.
  • Thorough understanding of all safety requirements and company safety policies.
  • Ability to apply on-the-job safety training to recognize and react to possible safety hazards on store premises. Also requires proper training and knowledge of the following equipment/procedures: hand jack, bailer, forklift, cutter, proper lifting techniques, etc.
  • Requires dependability and reliability and the ability to work a flexible schedule that changes as the business changes. This flexibility includes working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Store Director with the daily operation of the market, taking on full responsibilities when the Director is absent.
  • Order products, manages store inventory, and monitors product quality.
  • Uphold high standards of customer service, responding to customer complaints and backing up cashiers when necessary.
  • Support and execute Piazza’s Fine Foods’ Customer Service program.
  • Responsible for timely resolution of customer complaints, ensuring complaints are reported in a timely manner.
  • Interact with all management teams, accounting, payroll, and HR departments.
  • Develop methods for the grocery team to be more efficient and ensures that associates deliver extraordinary customer service.
  • Assists in directing the front-end manager position to ensure proper cash control, customer service and cashier production levels.
  • Prepare for and assist with the weekly management meeting.
  • Assist in analyzing profit and loss statements and recommend improvements to meet or exceed goals.
  • Responsible for scheduling store employees to coincide with budget and labor projections and to make daily adjustments as necessary.
  • Responsible for timely resolution of employee concerns to maintain a productive work environment.
  • Proactively identify and address performance and personnel issues in a timely manner and in adherence to Piazza’s policies.
  • Responsible for maintaining confidentiality concerning employee and company information.
  • Responsible for all administrative paperwork and for proper distribution and filing.
  • Enforce all company policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the timekeeping system Time and Attendance and ensure that all edits are completed according to the payroll schedule.
  • Interview candidates and make hiring decisions in partnership with the store director.
  • Responsible for new hire paperwork and sending completed paperwork to Payroll and HR in a timely manner.
  • Provide training to staff on company policies and safety guidelines and ensure employees follow company policies and store rules.
  • Responsible for maintaining all safety programs to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Initiate merchandising plans focused on increasing sales and profitability.
  • Orchestrate the merchandising and maintenance of all displays.
  • Oversee inventory control for the entire grocery department and sub-departments.
  • Manage the organization of backroom merchandise to create efficiencies while improving inventory turns.
  • Ensure that all loss prevention policies and procedures are in effect at all times.
  • Ensure safety and quality of all grocery products by monitoring storage conditions, temperatures, and shelf life; discount short dated product.
  • The Assistant Store Director supports the Store Director as needed, and executes other related duties as assigned.
