About The Position

The Assistant Store Director oversees daily store operations and provides leadership and direction to achieve profitable operation of the assigned retail store. The Assistant Store Director ensures that the goals of full, fresh, clean, and friendly are achieved and that a positive environment that engages and empowers all team members is maintained at store level. The Assistant Store Director is responsible for development of all direct reports, to include department team leaders and all store team members. The Assistant Store Director is to continually grow the team's capacity for efficiency, effectiveness and service and meet the company's succession needs. This position is expected to be a role model of the company by driving results while maintaining company core values.

Requirements

  • 2+ years' experience in a progressive operations role including managing different sales volume.
  • Confident working in a fast-paced, constantly evolving environment and exhibit excellent multi-tasking skills.
  • Proven experience in dealing effectively with diverse team member/management.
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal laws applicable to effectively running a store, governmental compliance requirements, employment, and labor laws, including immigration laws and regulations.
  • Possess the ability to articulate the complexity of business needs and the capability to build/develop practical action plans based upon those needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and analytical skills are required.
  • Solid ability to make recommendations to effectively resolve problems on issues, by using judgment that is consistent with standards, practices, policies, procedures, regulation or government.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills (includes active listening).
  • Able to prepare effective written reports, correspondences, and presentations to management as required.
  • Experienced in facilitating meetings by utilizing effective presentation skills.
  • Ability to speak, read, write and understand both English and Spanish sufficiently to understand conversations, presentations, company manuals, forms and reports.
  • Proficient computer skills in the areas of e-mail, Microsoft Office (Power Point, Word, Excel, etc.) required.
  • Effective planning, prioritization and time management skills with effective ability to follow-up on delegated tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for development of all direct reports, including department team leaders and all store team members.
  • Continuously grow the team's capacity for efficiency, effectiveness and service and meet the company's succession needs.
  • Drive results while maintaining company core values.
  • Provide guidance to Department Team Leaders to connect metrics to business processes and focus on continuous improvement strategies.
  • Partner with the Department Trainers to achieve results.
  • Ensure store operations are in full compliance with company, Federal, State, local regulatory safety, labor, workers compensation and health requirements.
  • Maintain all metrics on the weekly operations.
  • Evaluate and adjust in-store process (time, tools, MAP).
  • Clearly communicate and enforce standards for quality, cleanliness, organization, customer service, safety, loss prevention, sanitation, store conditions and food safety to all team members.
  • Continuously meet expectations of internal and external customers.
  • Perform additional management duties as assigned.
  • Assist Store Director in developing succession plans for all leadership positions within the store.
  • Recruit, select, orient, train, coach, counsel and develop Department Team Leaders to achieve store goals and ensure leadership talent.
  • Cultivate a culture of high performance and accountability.
  • Set clear performance expectations for Department Team Leaders and follow-up with timely performance evaluations and development.
  • Improve team member turnover in the store.
  • Embrace positive employee relations through consistent and fair application of company policies and leadership.
  • Provide advice and assistance to store team to enable completion of tasks.
  • Maintain a positive work environment and ensure fair and consistent treatment of all team members.
  • Lead by example on the importance of Customer Service excellence and engage with customers at all levels.
  • Guarantee store has the staffing needed to deliver expected service.
  • Develop tactics, recommendations, and reviews, to have friendly employees and clean stores.
  • Improve speed of service and operational efficiencies in all departments.
  • Motivate, inspire and create engagement, exemplifying the desired culture, values and philosophies of the organization.
  • Manage stress and remain cool under pressure, effectively coping with change and leading company change initiatives.
  • Develop improvement plans and programs with the Store Director, Department Team Leaders, District Director and Department Director to ensure the store meets goals.
  • Provide translation of communication between Store Support Center and store team.
  • Manage and administer a broad range of tasks including resolving complaints, counseling team members on policy interpretation.
  • Objectively coach store leaders and team members through complex, difficult, and emotional situations.
  • Make recommendations to effectively resolve problems or issues, using sound judgment consistent with company standards, practices, policies, procedures, government regulation or law.
  • Assist with P&L results, including preparing financial forecasts and performance reports.
  • Deliver the payroll % goals and maintain payroll management discipline.
  • Support programs to control shrink and contain costs at an acceptable level.
  • Review Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) with store team.
  • Read, understand, analyze and instruct store teams about income and financial statements; creating operating budgets and financial forecasts and calculating gross margins and productivity measures.
  • Monitor operational standards and programs and follow up on operating performance to ensure all stores meet sales, expense, gross profit and managerial profit contribution and EBITDA goals.
  • Analyze financial data and determine areas of opportunity as well as plans for remediating performance.
  • Develop quarterly sales, income, expense, capital and labor budgets.
  • Monitor and control expenses for all stores to be in line with budgets.
  • Manage with a basis-point (.01%) frame of reference.
  • Review programs prepared by merchandisers and recommend adjustments to meet local conditions.
  • Ensure timely and complete execution of company merchandising and promotion programs.
  • Work with store leadership to promote safety and ZERO accident culture.
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations while upholding company values, customer service philosophies, merchandising programs, pricing programs and winning environment initiatives.
  • Ensure that stores maintain buildings, fixtures, storage facilities, and equipment in optimal operational condition, monitor maintenance and repairs and manage expenses.
  • Advise Construction and Maintenance when remodels or major repairs are necessary.
  • Maintain current knowledge of market conditions and competitive activity.
  • Monitor market area for potential acquisitions or business opportunities and communicate viable suggestions to Store Director.
