The Assistant Staff Scientist will be responsible for performing experiments relating to cell biology, immunology, and bacteriology. This position will be responsible for the growth of mammalian cells and bacteria, conducting research to understand the host cell response to bacterial infections using molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, and immunological methods, including western blotting, immunoprecipitation, molecular genetic techniques, and DNA and plasmid preparation and transformation.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in life sciences with an emphasis in microbiology, cell biology, biochemistry, or related field, plus two (2) years of post-doctoral experience required.
  • Experience in laboratory training that includes cloning, PCR/RT-PCR, western blot, and aseptic mammalian cell culture handling.
  • Techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, and immunology.
  • Good communication skills, including communicating with others.
  • Presenting scientific findings at scientific conferences.
  • Writing scientific manuscripts and grant proposals.
  • Can stand near the bench.
  • Stand to arrange apparatus on the bench and handle fragile apparatus, and frequently walk between labs.
  • Capable of lifting to 10 lbs.

Nice To Haves

  • Postdoctoral fellowship experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Help write scientific manuscripts and grant proposals by supplying information pertaining to experiments undertaken as described and composing initial manuscript drafts.
  • Read scientific literature to design new experiments.
  • Develop new research skills that strengthen his/her independent research ability.
  • Organize and oversee daily operations of the laboratory, including ordering supplies and small equipment, maintaining chemical inventories, entering computerized data, and performing routine chemical and instrumental safety checks.
  • Help train graduate students, other postdoctoral researchers, technicians, and any temporary undergraduate students who enter the lab.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
