About The Position

The Assistant Sports Performance Coach reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance and assists in the development, implementation, and administration of strength and conditioning programs for 14 varsity intercollegiate athletic teams. This position collaborates closely with sport coaches and athletic training staff to optimize student-athlete health, wellness, physical development, and performance. The Assistant Sports Performance Coach is also responsible for supporting and adhering to all institutional, conference, and governing body policies, including those of Livingstone College, the CIAA, and the NCAA. This is a full-time position with a 10-month appointment. Livingstone College is an NCAA Division II institution and a member of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA).

Requirements

  • 4-year degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or a related field.
  • NSCA-CSCS or CSCCa-CSSS Certification.
  • CPR/AED certifications.
  • Communication and organization skills.
  • Basic competency in Google Workspace.
  • Ability to work flexible hours required.
  • Ability to safely demonstrate Olympic lifts, sprint mechanics, and physically assist with equipment setup and spotting as required.

Responsibilities

  • Design and safely implement an evidence-based strength and conditioning program for assigned varsity sports at Livingstone College to strengthen physiological and mental capabilities that coincide with the annual plan.
  • Abide by Livingstone College, CIAA, and NCAA rules and regulations while cultivating a human developmental culture.
  • Communicate effectively with sports coaches as to their thoughts/concerns about their team and implement changes when needed.
  • Teach exercise techniques and modifications to ensure safety and injury prevention in all sports.
  • Work closely with the Sports Medicine staff to ensure the safety and health of student athletes.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate AD of Sports Performance.
  • Collect and assess data to further guide periodization in the respective teams.
  • Help manage the weight room with scheduling, budget management, and equipment maintenance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
