The Assistant Service Manager at Pep Boys plays a crucial role in supporting the service and tire team under the direction of the Store Manager of Service. This position is integral in driving sales across various service sectors, including labor, parts, tires, and fleet business. The Assistant Service Manager is responsible for providing essential selling and task support, ensuring that the service repair business is organized, and that store operations run efficiently while maintaining shop productivity to meet company standards. In this role, the Assistant Service Manager assists in various aspects of customer care, work order management, register assistance, facility maintenance, and merchandising activities, particularly related to tire stocking. They ensure that service equipment is in proper working order and that housekeeping standards are adhered to according to company guidelines. The Assistant Service Manager is also responsible for following all policies and procedures related to point of sale transactions, inventory integrity, and vendor payment practices. The position requires collaboration with the management team to address customer service issues, complaints, and business opportunities. The Assistant Service Manager drives sales goals for the service center through personal engagement with customers and by coaching service advisors on effective customer interactions. They assist in training service selling associates on the Pep Boys Customer Care Process and perform Courtesy Vehicle Inspections (CVIs) as qualified. Monitoring shop productivity, workflow, and procedures is a key responsibility, with a focus on efficiency, thoroughness, and safety. The Assistant Service Manager also partners with management to ensure a safe and healthy work environment compliant with all relevant laws and company policies. In the absence of management, this role acts as the primary supervisor for store staff, coordinating operational activities and maintaining an organized shop environment. The Assistant Service Manager is also responsible for key holder duties, including basic and detailed opening and closing responsibilities, and must adhere to all company policies and safety rules.
