About The Position

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Assistant Scientist to support the Understanding Gulf Ocean Systems (UGOS) Consortium. The selected candidate will contribute to research at the intersection of oceanography and fisheries, with a focus on larval dispersal, recruitment, and connectivity in the Gulf of Mexico. Requirements

  • Ph.D. in physical oceanography or related field
  • At least 1 year of relevant postdoctoral experience
  • Strong background in oceanographic modeling, statistical analysis, and data interpretation
  • Demonstrated programming experience including MATLAB, R and Fortran, along with experience with High Performing Computing (HPC) environments.
  • Peer-reviewed publication record
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and statistically analyze complex biological and oceanographic datasets
  • Develop and test hypotheses related to physical-biological interactions and recruitment variability
  • Conduct simulations using coupled physical-biological models for larval dispersal
  • Collaborate with academic and federal researchers across the UGOS Consortium
  • Present research at scientific meetings and publish in peer-reviewed journals
