About The Position

This is an administrative and supervisory position involving responsibility for relieving the School Lunch Manager of detail work and assisting him /her in the overall direction of the School lunch program.

Requirements

  • Six years of experience in institution management, hotel administration or restaurant management involving large quantity food service and graduation from a standard senior high school; or Two years of satisfactory experience in institution management, hotel administration or restaurant management involving large quantity food service and possession of an associate degree in applied science issued after completion of a two-year course in a technical institute with specialization of foods, nutrition and institution management; or A satisfactory equivalent combination of the foregoing training and experience.
  • Good knowledge of the fundamentals of nutrition and their application to the health of children
  • Knowledge of all phases of the school lunch program
  • Working knowledge of the principles, and practices of large quantity food preparation, menu planning, purchasing, equipment selecting and care, sanitary food handling and storage, ability to plan and supervise the work of others

Responsibilities

  • Is familiar with and contributes to the successful implementation of the District’s Mission and Belief statements
  • Assists a School Lunch Manager in planning, directing, and administering the school lunch programs in districts serving type A and ala carte meals, to children and adults; does related work as required.
  • Assists the Manager in planning and directing the operation of the school lunch program for all schools in the district
  • Interviews and helps select school lunch personnel, as well as having responsibility for evaluating work performance
  • Collects data and participates in the preparation of the school lunch program budget for current and long-range expenditures
  • Participates in the planning and directing of employee training
  • Prepares and analyzes reports relating to school lunch program activities
  • Supervises the purchase of foods; supplies and equipment
  • Participates in the planning of menus and inspects the preparation of food.
  • Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee.
