About The Position

The Assistant Manager will align his/her scope of work with Jawonio’s Mission, while incorporating Jawonio’s Core Values as the guiding principle for all work activities. Summary: To provide administrative support and supervise direct care and/or act on manager’s behalf in the house; ensuring consumers are living in a safe, nurturing environment.

Requirements

  • High School plus a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar setting, including supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Frequent contact with consumers, agency professionals, and other staff. Regular to occasional contact with family members, professionals and others outside the agency, vendors, and others visiting or having business in the residence.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of families, co-workers, and other community groups.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • No certifications needed at hire.
  • Travel to and from designated internal and external facilities. Alternate training sites and conferences, as defined by the agency.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Distance vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. On feet most of day, pushing, lifting of equipment and consumers as job requires on a regular basis. Outside part of the day, including time when driving van.
  • Daily access to an automobile is required.
  • A valid NY State Driver’s License and ability to drive and driving record acceptable for agency insurance coverage are required.
  • Must be cleared/maintain acceptable record under NY state mandated criminal background check process.
  • Must be clear and maintain an acceptable record under the Medicaid Fraud & Abuse clearance process.
  • On-going training/education as part of development related to position. Programs are regulated by OPWDD.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises direct care staff as they carry out assigned duties, ensuring that all assignments are carried out as scheduled, including ADL skills assigned to each individual, housekeeping duties, laundry, and transporting of individuals. Ensures paperwork i.e., ongoing services, active treatment and habilitation goals are completed, and paperwork is filed. Monitors the vehicle log on a daily basis. Coordinates vehicle repairs as needed.
  • May perform duties of DSP as needed or required due to scheduling, etc.
  • Shops for House groceries biweekly or as needed, following the menus as outlined by the dietician. Dates and stores food according to house procedure.
  • Monitors on going services to individuals living in the home, including daily hygiene activities as showers, denture cleaning, shaving, etc. Ensures that the individual is neat, clean, and ready to go on outings, appointments etc. on time.
  • Accompanies, or arranges for staff to accompany, individuals on medical appointments.
  • Maintains inventory of all household supplies. Orders or buys replenishment as needed, utilizing state contracts if available. Completes purchase order forms and submits per agency regulations.
  • Visually inspects the house on a daily basis, including exterior of residence and garage. Calls the maintenance department to report any repairs or other steps needed to make the residence safe.
  • Performs a variety of leadership functions, including participating in orientation and training of new employees; responsible for weekly staffing schedule, and daily staff assignments including obtaining overtime authorization and attendance tracking. In the absence of the House Manager, will address some disciplinary issues and other activities related to the operation and smooth running of the house.
  • Monitors the completion of individual accountability sheets on a weekly basis to ensure that all assignments and projects have been completed. Documents any changes or deviations from the plans. Member of the clinical team. Models appropriate behavior and work ethic for staff, ensuring that the mission of the agency is reflected in the care provided to the individuals living in the residence.
  • May be required to work an additional shift if needed.
  • In the absence of the Manager, may assist with program money.
  • Must cooperate and participate fully with Jawonio and/or Justice Center and OPWDD during an investigation or inspection, including making verbal and written statements as requested by the person(s) doing the investigation.
  • May transport individuals to work center or other day treatment program.
  • Attends departmental meetings as requested, scheduled or necessary. May present reports or conduct research for meetings.
  • Maintains safe, orderly work area and work practices.
