About The Position

The Assistant Resident Engineer will assist in managing inspection staff, ensuring compliance with project specifications, and maintaining effective communication with contractors, design staff, and various stakeholders on a NYCDEP project – Construction Management Services at the Bureau’s Wastewater Resource Recovery facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering
  • 5+ years of experience working as an OE or RE with water and wastewater agencies
  • Proficiency in construction management software (MS Office, eBuilder, etc.)
  • Ability to work closely with project managers, contractors, and subcontractors
  • Clear understanding of construction schedules, inspection reports, and payment reviews
  • Valid OSHA certification required
  • Strong communication and written skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Effective problem-solving and analytical thinking

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day construction oversight and assist the Resident Engineer with project management efforts.
  • Assist in managing the inspection staff and ensure the delivery of daily inspector reports in accordance with client requirements.
  • Act as a liaison to design staff to respond to Contractors' RFIs and review shop drawings.
  • Oversee office staff responsible for record keeping, correspondence, and drafting reports and deliverables.
  • Provide technical reviews of construction plans and specifications, assessing constructability and practicality.
  • Ensure site safety and compliance with permit conditions.
  • Monitor contractor performance, including schedule, responsiveness, and effectiveness.
  • Influence contractors to maintain project goals regarding cost, schedule, and quality.
  • Support the review, preparation, and processing of contractor payments.
  • Assist in leading meetings and preparing agendas and minutes.
  • Lead progress, project, safety, scheduling, and contract administration meetings with clients, local agencies, and the community.
  • Supervise other staff members on the project.
