About The Position

Techno is preparing to support a major coastal resilience and water infrastructure effort on Staten Island, and we’re looking to bring an Assistant Resident Engineer on board in the coming months. This project is a significant, multi-year initiative aimed at strengthening critical infrastructure and protecting nearby communities from future storm impacts. Our team will play a central role in guiding construction, oversight, and quality assurance from the ground up, making this an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful, long-term change.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • 3–7 years of experience in construction oversight or inspection, ideally on large civil or water infrastructure projects.
  • Strong familiarity with civil, environmental, and coastal construction practices.
  • Ability to work full-time in the field and adapt to an active, fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with NYCDEP standards, procedures, or capital projects is highly advantageous.
  • EIT preferred; PE a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Resident Engineer in the day-to-day management of field operations, ensuring construction activities align with the project’s technical requirements and long-term resiliency goals.
  • Perform regular field inspections of civil, structural, utility, and water-related work, documenting conditions, verifying installation methods, and identifying any deviations from approved plans.
  • Monitor contractor productivity, sequencing, and adherence to schedules; flag delays or issues early and help develop corrective action recommendations.
  • Prepare detailed daily reports, photo logs, inspection notes, and progress summaries that capture onsite activities and support project documentation.
  • Review and provide input on RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, change orders, and contractor work plans to ensure compliance with project specifications.
  • Track quantities, support payment application review, and verify completed work against contract requirements.
  • Participate in progress meetings with contractors, internal staff, and stakeholders, offering field insights and status updates.
  • Assist in resolving field issues by coordinating with design teams, contractors, and the Resident Engineer to facilitate timely, practical solutions.
  • Maintain organized digital and physical project records, including logs, inspection documentation, and communication files.
  • Enforce safety standards, environmental requirements, and permit conditions, while promoting a culture of accountability on site.
  • Support punch list development, close-out activities, and final inspections as the project progresses through major milestones.
