The Assistant Recreation Supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, and supervising recreational activities, special events, and sports programs for the community. This role involves coordinating with various departments and agencies, overseeing activity areas, and assisting the Recreation Supervisor as needed. The position requires effective communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage staff and volunteers while ensuring the successful execution of community programs.

  • Plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate special events including races, sporting events, tournaments, and camps.
  • Assist with the implementation of special events as assigned.
  • Research, design, and implement new programs to meet community needs for all ages and abilities.
  • Assign appropriate fees to increase revenue and help create annual budgets.
  • Monitor and evaluate program revenues and expenditures.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate part-time and temporary staff, volunteers, and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate the orientation, training, and evaluation of various employees.
  • Transport self to and from various sites and terrains.
  • Conduct program grant research and application admissions.
  • Assist in preparing marketing materials for programs and special events.
  • Participate in training and teaching recreational players, coaches, officials, and parents.
  • Ensure completion of all proper checklists and documents in a timely manner.
  • Develop, implement, and supervise sports, youth, adult, and recreational programs for all ages and abilities.
  • Supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate Activity Area and Recreation Staff.
  • Prepare and maintain reports, inventory, equipment, and other records.
  • Purchase, maintain, and replace equipment needed for programs.
  • Apply, explain, and enforce rules and regulations as needed.
  • Attend facility staff meetings and conduct area staff meetings regularly.
  • Assume responsibility for completing related duties as assigned by the Recreation Supervisor.
  • Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in recreation or a closely related field.
  • Two years of full-time professional recreation/sports program experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Possess a valid Utah driver's license.
  • Have or obtain CPRP (Certified Parks and Recreation Professional) certification within one year.
  • Strong leadership skills and knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.
  • Experience in a recreation center.
  • Knowledge of computer-related applications.
