About The Position

Under general supervision of the Recreation Supervisor, the Assistant Recreation Supervisor is responsible for assisting in the development of aquatic recreation services, special events and facility use operations of City aquatics activities, programs and associated staff. Responsible for assisting in the overall operation, staffing, budget, and rental of City Aquatic facilities including but not limited to, coordinating the oversight of day-to-day programs and operations, scheduling, facility booking, safety protocols and compliance and management of assigned staff. Assist with the oversight (directly/indirectly) all assigned staff including volunteers and contract or seasonal/temp staff: training, motivating and evaluating staff; identifying and resolving employee concerns and/or problems, directing work: completing employee performance evaluations; and making hiring, termination and disciplinary decisions or recommendations. Assist with the monitoring of all pool chemicals to ensure health and safety standards are maintained and chemical records and reports are documented in accordance with city, state and national standards as related to public aquatic facilities. Perform or assign proper maintenance and safety inspections of facilities and equipment to reduce hazards and to provide maximum safety for patrons; maintain adequate inventory and upkeep of equipment used in the operation of assigned programs; and daily inventory of all emergency equipment and office supplies. Serve as an administrator and contact for emergencies, answer questions, and provide information to the public; investigate complaints and recommend corrective action as necessary to resolve issues and/or concerns. Assist with a variety of city-wide Parks and Recreation special events during the aquatics off season. Perform related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Parks and Recreation or related field and (1) one year of experience in aquatic operations, leadership, directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid certifications in Lifeguard Instructor, Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator or Aquatic Facility Operator, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire.
  • Knowledge of rescue methods and first aid as applied to accidents in the water and surrounding areas.
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the operation and maintenance of public swimming pools.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
  • Available for emergency response; and availability and willingness to work weekends, evenings, and holidays

Nice To Haves

  • Special Event experience.
  • Aquatic Pool operator certification.
  • Certificate in American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer.
