About The Position

Performs works responsible for overseeing, leading and supervising the effective and efficient management and operations of Parks and Recreation facilities, leagues and programs for the City of Cape Girardeau.

Requirements

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree.
  • Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the diverse objectives and functions of the subunits in the divisions/department in order to direct and coordinate work within the division/department.
  • Possession of valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and monitors the work of subordinate full and part time staff ensuring work is being performed in a manner consistent with quality outcomes and positive experiences for program participants and facility users.
  • Performs facility oversight and operations management at the A.C. Brase Arena, Shawnee Park Sports Complex, Shawnee Park Center, Osage Centre, Cape Splash, Cape Aquatic Center, Sportsplex, Jaycee Municipal Golf Course and Jefferson Aquatic Center to include scheduling staff as well as overseeing programs and facility maintenance operations.
  • Oversees and performs management of special events, tournaments, sport leagues, youth and adult classes, space rental and other programs.
  • Assists in the administration of budgets for multiple divisions; oversees bidding, evaluating and purchasing; monitors division budgets and payrolls.
  • Collaborates with the Marketing team to promote programs, events and facilities including assisting with the design of marketing collateral, program guides, newsletters and website/social media content.
  • Oversees administrative projects assigned by the Department Director, Recreation Division Managers and other City Officials. Prepares reports and coordinates projects for Advisory Boards, sub-committees, sports leagues and community groups.
  • Oversees concession management at multiple facilities. Responsible for all revenues generated and inventory/cost control.
  • Ensures the quality and safety of all adult and youth recreational programs, events, leagues and services.
  • Responsible for performing the duties of the Recreation Division Manager in his or her absence.
  • Performs fundraising duties and sponsorship recruitment.
  • Responds to after-hours calls as needed. Works varied hours as needed to provide oversight and management of programs and facilities including evening, nights and weekends.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
