About The Position

We are currently seeking an Assistant Quality Manager for our Transportation Division in Chicago, IL. The Assistant Quality Manager (AQM) works in conjunction with the Quality Manager (QM) on implementation, improvement and execution of the Quality management system (QMS) and project specific requirements. If the project does not have a QM, the AQM may assume the duties of the project’s Quality Champion as stated in the QM’s role. Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the construction industry.
  • Valid Driving License to drive in the state of Illinois.
  • Must possess ability to write and review reports, procedure manuals, processes.
  • Must possess ability to collect and review technical content of materials certificates and associated datasheets.
  • Well organized, flexible, detail-oriented and multi-tasked.
  • Knowledge and experience of working to FTA, IDOT, and ASTM standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Proficiency in quality management through Document Control Systems.
  • Has an ab i lity to ga t her, a nal y z e, evaluate, and take decisions based on fa c t s .
  • Can deliver reports in an objective, clear, and comprehensive manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience relevant to transportation projects would be an asset.
  • Experience in a role such as quality lead, lab manager, materials technician, etc.… and knowledge of the Buy America Build America requirements would be an asset.
  • Preferred certified as a Quality professional, e.g. ASQ certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction management preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Apply the project rules and be proactive in terms of Health and Safety when visiting site or at the office.
  • Support the implementation of the Quality Assurance & Quality Control Processes on the project, particularly all processes related to the assurance of materials.
  • Support in the development of execution plans, instructions, procedures, checklists to provide improvements to the QC process.
  • Participate in the scoring of bidders during the procurement process, and future evaluations during the work.
  • Ensure nonconformities and deficiencies are logged and closed out in line with the project’s QMS.
  • Participate in Root Cause Analysis for NCRs and report on causes of failure.
  • Recommend changes to improve overall Quality, including participation in internal work planning to foster incorporation of previous lessons learned to prevent recurrences.
  • Develop, manage, maintain, and supervise material tracking logs .
  • Coordinate with the construction area managers and the project engineers to ensure quality documentation is received, logged, and uploaded to CTA’s Project Website per contract requirements, including product datasheets, certifications, compliance test results, and other required submittals outlined in the technical specifications.
  • Manage the Buy America Build America process.
  • Review and technically interpret material test results.
  • Coordinate with internal and external project teams for resolution of quality related issues.
  • Participate in pre-activity meetings and regular progress meetings to develop understanding of current and upcoming work.
  • Maintain QC document records and perform self-audits of hard copy and electronic records.
  • Build a good and collaborative relationship with all stakeholders, including the CTA Owner Representative Quality personnel.
  • Promote WVTCP’s Right First-Time culture by developing, sharing, and presenting Lessons Learned, Toolbox Talks, Quality Bulletins.
  • Ensure the MIR/MT forms and supporting documents are compiled by the operations staff and report on any delinquent documents.
  • Review MIR/MT forms for completeness, log and upload to CTA eBuilder site.
  • Assist QC staff with review and interpretation of plans and specifications.
