About The Position

The City of Belmont's Public Works Department is seeking an Assistant Public Works Director/City Engineer to join their highly motivated team! We're looking for a personable and approachable leader that can mentor and support team growth, is a skilled communicator that can motivate those around them, has private and public sector experience, project management skills, experience leading large development projects, and a strong background with capital improvement programs.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Five (5) years of increasingly responsible municipal public works program administration experience including three years of management or supervisory responsibility.
  • Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California is required.

Nice To Haves

  • A Master's degree in engineering, public or business administration is desirable.
  • Additional years of private sector civil, structural, or traffic engineering work may substitute for, or augment municipal public works experience.

Responsibilities

  • Directs review of private development plans to ensure conformance with the municipal code.
  • Supervises engineering staff in planning, design, construction and administration of the Capital Improvement Plan.
  • Plans, programs and schedules engineering and support personnel on assigned projects and programs.
  • Reviews and signs parcel and subdivision maps and development plans for conformance with the Subdivision Map Act, City standards and municipal code.
  • Serves as the Acting Public Works Director in his or her absence.
  • Interprets City code and policies related to City infrastructure and private development.
  • Establishes City engineering standards.
  • Enforces City Engineering and Public Works Department designated duties of the Belmont Municipal Code.
  • Serves as Program Manager for various infrastructure related funds.
  • Oversees compliance with regulatory requirements to include the State Water Resources Control Board permits for the stormwater and sanitary sewer systems.

  • Administrative Leave 80 hours per year.
  • Sick Leave - Earned at one day (8 hours) per month of service.
  • Eleven (11) Holidays with two (2) Floating Holidays after a year of service.
