The Assistant Public Records Custodian (APRC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison plays a crucial role in ensuring compliance with the Wisconsin Public Records Law. This position involves administrative duties related to public records requests, including communication with requesters, reviewing and redacting records, and providing guidance to campus partners. The APRC works closely with the Public Records Custodian and various institutional units to promote ethical conduct and mitigate compliance risks within the university community.

  • Compiles and classifies reports in support of a specific compliance program, assists leadership in regulatory report creation, coordinates notification issuance, and assists with the development and implementation of institution-wide policies to ensure compliance with institutional policies and/or laws and regulations.
  • Assists leadership with developing and publishing compliance reports in accordance with established laws and regulations.
  • Audits and serves as a subject matter expert and point of contact for potentially affected units and affiliated organizations, ensuring appropriate notices are issued relating to compliance.
  • Collaborates with other institutional compliance subject matter experts to review procedures and make change recommendations to leadership.
  • Provides consultation to internal and external partners related to the Wisconsin public records law.
  • Assists with institution-wide training and outreach.
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Minimum 3 years applying complex regulatory frameworks including public policy
