About The Position

Our client City of Houston is in need of an Assistant Project Manager. The Assistant Project Manager is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of municipal infrastructure and construction projects. This includes reviewing project plans and specifications, coordinating with contractors and internal departments, monitoring project progress, assisting with permit reviews, and ensuring compliance with City standards and technical requirements. The position also plays a critical role in communication between contractors, engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders to ensure projects move forward efficiently and issues are addressed promptly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Physical Sciences or a closely related field
  • Considerable knowledge of the construction industry
  • Two years of experience in construction, construction inspection, design, geotechnical, environmental or in a closely related field
  • Directly related professional experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver's License
  • Must comply with the COH policy AP 2-2 on Driving
  • Proficient in Microsoft word, excel, teams, outlook, and Adobe
  • Superb customer service experience via phone / in-person / Email
  • Great writing and critical thinking skills for documents Analysis
  • Able to review surveys, floor plans, site plans, google earth, Gis / mapping systems and a problem solver

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of municipal infrastructure and construction projects
  • Reviewing project plans and specifications
  • Coordinating with contractors and internal departments

  • Assisting with permit reviews
  • Ensuring compliance with City standards and technical requirements
  • Playing a critical role in communication between contractors, engineers, inspectors, and stakeholders to ensure projects move forward efficiently and issues are addressed promptly
  • Attends various conferences and meetings
  • Directs and coordinates the work activities by construction management, technical professionals, consultants and other outside agencies to resolve problems and expedite project completion
  • Assists in developing contractual budgetary controls
  • Interprets contracts and construction documents
  • Conducts inspections to ensure adherence to contract specifications and requirements
  • Verifies and processes progress payments and negotiates cost of changes to contracts
  • Expedites responses to submittals from construction personnel
