About The Position

Under the guidance of Director, Public Programming, the Assistant Programmer supports all aspects of a range of dynamic mission-aligned public programs including performances, talks, workshops, film screenings, and other multidisciplinary events and community partnership activities – that engage broad and diverse audiences. This role is responsible for developing and implementing small to medium-sized community partnership programs that foster meaningful connections between art and the community.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in arts administration, event management, performing arts, or related field required.
  • Three years of experience in public programs or events in arts, cultural, or non-profit organization required. Additional years of experience may be substituted for degree requirement.
  • Working knowledge of event logistics planning
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external stakeholders.
  • Some experience with developing and tracking budgets for projects, assuring adherence to approved budgets.
  • Ability to provide information, ideas, and instructions clearly, effectively, and professionally through talking or writing.
  • Demonstrated ability to speak publicly, including presenting or sharing information in a clear, effective, and engaging manner suited to the audience.
  • Demonstrated research and analysis skills to identify critical information and complete projects and goals.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills to plan, manage, prioritize, and complete multiple on-going projects to meet deadlines and goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with attention to detail and produce accurate results.
  • Ability to identify challenges and opportunities, engage others in their resolution, and recommend appropriatecourseof action.
  • Ability to work regularweekend,evening, and holiday hours.
  • Must be proficient in the latest version of Office 365.
  • Must have proficiency in the use of remote work technology such as scheduling with, connecting to, and using digital collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams.
  • Must be able to establish and maintain professional, productive, and courteous interactions that promote positive teamwork. This encompasses going beyond giving and receiving instructions and includes but is not limited to (a) performing work activities requiring interacting or speaking with others; and (b) responding appropriately to constructive feedback or suggestions for improvement from a supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Support programmers with research, development, and implementation ofa varied portfolio of programs that align with institutional priorities and engage audiences of all backgrounds.
  • Contribute toevaluatingpotential programs, artists, and collaborators to ensure quality, relevance, and strategic fit.
  • Work with programmers to cultivate and sustain relationships with community partners, artists, and cultural organizations to co-create or inform programming.
  • Recommend new and innovative public programs to engage new and returning audiences.
  • Collaboratewith internal departments including Education, Studio, Interpretation, Curatorial, Marketing, Visitor Experience, Event and Food Service Operations, Building Operations, and Protection Services to ensure programs are integrated with exhibitions, interpretation, operations, and audience strategies.
  • Partner with Programmers to negotiate and manage contracts, budgets, and vendor relationships for assignedsmall to medium-sizedprograms.
  • Communicateprogram needs with Audio Visual, Theatre Production, House Management, and other operational teams.
  • Supportday-of-event execution and post-event follow-up, including assessment and documentation.
  • Represent the department on cross-institutional committees as assigned.
  • Apply DIA values to interactions to support a culture of belonging among internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
