About The Position

Duties Teaching responsibilities consist of 12 credit hours per semester, comprising of lectures and labs [( Spring : Introduction to GISS lecture + lab, Introduction to Remote Sensing lecture + lab, GIS Modeling and Programming lecture + lab; Fall : Intro. To GISS lecture + lab, Spatial Analysis in GIS lecture + lab, Web Mapping and WebGIS lecture + lab, and GIS Internship (as needed)]. Primary responsibilities will be instruction of undergraduate and graduate courses in the GIS certificate and minor. Develops syllabi, maintains materials, and supplies for the classes assigned. Ensures availability of software licenses, remote sensing datasets and web-mapping platforms for instructional use. Works with IT to ensure installation of appropriate GIS software on university computers. Mentor students pursuing GIS , Earth and Environmental Science minors and related tracks within the Sustainable Development degree plans. Integrate field-based, project-based, and applied-learning experiences into instruction as appropriate. Collaborate with institutional partners to integrate GIS applications across disciplines. Collaborate with community partners to develop local and regional GIS capacity. Conduct research or applied projects in geospatial applications suited to a small, rural, teaching-focused university; involve students in research and projects. Supervises student research projects, practicums, and applied GIS projects in collaboration with colleagues and community partners. Maintains a safe working environment and complies with all state and federal safety regulations. Adapts courses to current technology applicable to the discipline and teach online and/or televised courses as needed. Participates in departmental and University committees and special projects. Provides a broad range of administrative and supervisory functions. Supervises assigned staff in accordance with WNMU personnel practices including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, guidance, etc. Participates in the process of ongoing personal and professional development. Maintains comprehensive communication among all contacts (internal and external). Models professional standards and ethics in accordance with WNMU philosophy. Performs other duties as assigned.
