About The Position

Marshall University’s School of Theatre and Dance invites applications for a term (3-year) position at the rank of assistant professor, to begin in August 2024. This is an Acting/Movement position with a full-time, nine-month appointment and eligibility to receive reappointment two additional terms. The successful candidate will have substantial experience as an acting teacher with a range of movement-based techniques that may include (but are not limited to) Qualities of Movement (Chekhov), Alexander Technique, Viewpoints, Laban, Biomechanics, and Lecoq. Candidates given strongest consideration will have an established national reputation in the field or evidence of potential for national recognition as well as an awareness of current and emerging trends in the acting profession. Experience as a lecturer in Theatre Appreciation and/or with Theatre for Young Audiences programming is highly desirable. Responsibilities include a 4/4 workload equivalent, including teaching of introductory and upper-level survey, scene-study, audition technique, movement-based acting methodology, and play analysis courses; directing two departmental productions annually; and directing and managing Theatre ETC ! , our Theatre for Young Audiences program. The successful candidate will participate in faculty governance, advise/mentor students, and provide service to the school, college, university, and/or community. The department also seeks candidates who will contribute to the University’s general education curriculum and its emphasis on using high-impact teaching practices, particularly those affiliated with one (or more) of the institution’s pedagogical initiatives (e.g., Community-based Learning, Critical Thinking, First Year Seminar, Writing Across the Curriculum, etc.). Additionally, the ideal candidate will contribute to the College’s support of interdisciplinary programs of study. Candidates interviewing on campus need to submit unofficial transcripts (undergraduate and graduate) directly to the chair of the search committee.

Requirements
