The Department of Biology at Radford University invites applications for a tenure-track teaching and research faculty position in microbial genetics at the Assistant Professor rank beginning Fall 2022. Candidates are expected to establish and maintain an active research program involving undergraduate students and to contribute to university service. Teaching responsibilities may include introductory biology for majors or non-majors, upper-level microbiology or genetics courses, and elective courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Teaching assignments may include courses at either the Radford campus or the Radford University Carilion campus in Roanoke, approximately 50 miles northeast of Radford. Radford University’s Department of Biology is housed in the recently constructed Center for the Sciences and in the adjoining, newly renovated Reed-Curie Halls. We are nearing completion of a five-year Howard Hughes Medical Institute Inclusive Excellence grant to use project-based learning to improve student retention and inclusion in STEM at Radford, and we are participating in the Council on Undergraduate Research Transformations program to revise our curriculum to enhance course-based research opportunities for all students. A new faculty member with interests in the scholarship of teaching and learning will find many opportunities for exciting collaborations. For more information, please visit the Radford University website at http://www.radford.edu and the department page at http://www.radford.edu/content/csat/home/biology.html . Our department strives for a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to creating paths for success that enable our students, faculty, and staff to move from where they are to where they want to go. We are working to create an environment that celebrates differences, challenges privileges, and provides effective opportunities for growth. We understand diversity as the differences that define our community. We value our differing experiences and perspectives extending beyond legally protected categories, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, geographical origins, education, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, nationality, age, language, veteran status, marital status, genetic information, abilities, and cognition. We seek to cultivate a culture of inclusive excellence where all voices are valued, respected, and integrated into the fabric of our community.
