There are still lots of open positions. Let's find the one that's right for you.
The Southwest National Primate Research Center (SNPRC) and Texas Biomedical Research Institute (Texas Biomed), located in San Antonio, Texas, are seeking an Assistant or Associate Veterinarian. This position is crucial for ensuring appropriate veterinary care for the production, research, and retirement colonies of nonhuman primates (NHPs). The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards consistent with Standard Operating Procedures, the Animal Welfare Act, and The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals. The role involves leading a team of veterinary technical staff to implement and execute research projects in ABSL2, 3, or 4 settings. In this position, the veterinarian will oversee research procedures, review protocols, and advise Principal Investigators on the proper use of animal models. The candidate will also be tasked with developing research techniques and improving animal care through refinement, welfare, and management practices. Collaboration with both internal and external Principal Investigators who wish to utilize the unique NHP resources at Texas Biomed is a key aspect of this role. The successful candidate will be appointed as a Core Scientist of the SNPRC, reporting to the Associate Director for Veterinary Resources, and will also be a member of the Texas Biomed faculty, reporting to the Vice President for Research. As this is a faculty position, independent or collaborative research is highly encouraged. Additionally, the veterinarian will provide clinical care and preventative medicine support to the NHP colonies. This includes implementing a preventative health program, disease surveillance and prevention, administering analgesics and anesthetics, participating in the DEA controlled substance program, and providing surgical and post-surgical care of research animals. Diagnosis and treatment of diseases will also be part of the responsibilities.
